Summarizing Ceremony of Students’ Activities in Academic Year 2017-2018

On the evening of 30th May 2018 the National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) solemnly organized the “Summarizing Ceremony of Students’ Activities in Academic Year 2017-2018”.

The ceremony is honored to welcome the presence of: Assoc. Prof. Pham Duy Hoa – Rector; Assoc. Prof. Pham Xuan Anh – Vice-Rector; Assoc. Prof. Tran Van Tan – President of NUCE Academic Council; representatives of leaders of offices, faculties and departments; Students’ Union; lecturers and students of Olympic teams; as well as students who have had excellent achievements in academic, artistic, and sport activities.

To open the ceremony, MSc. Nguyen Van Hung – Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union summarized in his report all students’ activities including Excellent Students and Olympiad contests, Students’ Scientific Research, together with Artistic and Sport activities. In Academic Year (AY) 2017- 2018, the Excellent Students and Olympiad contests were rallied since 04/12/2017 in sync with a Steering Committee of Excellent Students and Olympiad contests, through whom all information were spread to all students. A special talk show: “Students with the competitions of Excellent Students and Olympiad” was organized for the first time, attracting over 300 students and lecturers of various departments. NUCE would organize training classes for excellent students of 17 subjects in January 2018, among which the subjects of Computer Application in Structural Mechanics and Computer Application in Machine Details were present for the first time. Results in the training class were to serve as ase to select Olympic teams to join the 30th National Olympiad in Mechanics. On 28/01/2018, the Excellent Students’ contest of NUCE in AY 2017-2018 was held with the participation of 256 students in 17 subjects, an increment of 15% in comparison with AY 2017-2018. The awards were: 20 First prizes (8%), 50 Second prizes (20%) and 83 Third prizes (32%). Subsequently, the steering committee formed training classes for Olympic teams in 9 weeks from January to April 2018. Launching Ceremony of Olympic Teams was organized solemnly but warmly on 06/04/2018 to encourage all teams before the grand contest. Basing on these preparations, NUCE proudly joined the 30th National Olympiad in Mechanics with 150 competitors. The teams achieved the following achievements: Individual prizes: 4 First prizes (3%) ; 20 Second prizes (13%); 36 Third prizes (24%) and 50 Consolation prizes (33%); Team prizes: First prize (in Structural Mechanics and Computer Application in Machine Details); 4 Second prizes (in Mathematics, Strength of Materials, Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics) and 1 Third prize (in Theoretical Mechanics).

Besides the contests of Excellent Students and Olympic, the Students’ Scientific Research contest is also an important activity, help students practice self-study, hone scientific research skills, improve technical knowledge, promote dynamism, and develop creative thinking. With the organization of Office of Science and Technology, the contest was rallied since the beginning of the AY through the help of faculties. On 19/092017, a talk show was held: “Scientific research methods and steps to conduct a student’s scientific research topic; some experiences in directing a scientific research topic” with the presentations of many lecturers who are experts in various fields. During the execution, all topics were cared for and were required to report their progresses regularly. The Academic Council of each faculty conducted a preliminary review thus selected 237/348 topics that were qualified to defend in front of Assessment Juries. This AY, the contest attracted nearly 800 students under the guidance of 178 lecturers. The Conference of Science and Technology for Students in Academic Year 2017-2018 was held on Sunday, 20/05/2018 with 40 Assessment Juries belonging to 11 scientific subcommittees of faculties. The results yielded 181 awarded topics in the total of 237 qualified topics (make up 76%), in which there are 23 First prizes (10%), 54 Second prizes (22%) and 105 Third prizes (44%).

Besides achievements in academic activities, artistic and sport activities of NUCE students in AY 2017-2018 also obtained respectful results. In January 2018, Students Sport Festival of NUCE in AY 2017-2018 was organized, creating a lively atmosphere among students of all faculties while discovering potential athletes to join NUCE sport teams. With the organization of the Department of Physical Education, NUCE sport teams participated in Vietnam University Games (VUG) for universities, academies and colleges of Hanoi region in 2018 with the subjects of: men’s table tennis, men’s volleyball and athletic. The VUG 2018 for men’s futsal and face-off dance were held from March to May 2018. The face-off dance team of NUCE really made the hall exploded to enter the quarterfinal for the second time consecutively after 5 years of participation; while NUCE men’s futsal team excellently placed Second place in Hanoi region. Especially, with the enthusiastic encouragement of supporting teams, VUG Team of NUCE achieved First prize in National VUG 2018. In November 2017, CKX2017 was held with the topic of Unlimited Sound. The music show was joined by famous bands and attracted over 8000 audiences. For the very first time, CKX was broadcasted live on VTC3-Youtube entertaining channel, netted a total of 45.000 live views. In October 2017, the event of “Build Up! – Member recruiting festival” brought about a playground for Clubs, Societies and Voluntary teams within the university. NUCE Blood was the blood-donating event in the university, and was held twice each AY in October and April to call for passionate souls to participate in blood donation. After the two events, NUCE Blood collected 2000 blood units in an overall attempt to meet the demand of hospitals nationwide. Apart from the above activities, many other meaningful programs were organized such as: Talented MC contest – October 2017; The Face for Magazine Covers – December 2017; live broadcast of Final match with the participation of U23 Vietnam National football team – January 2018; Born to Sing contest – March 2018; all of which attracted the participation of many students.

To achieve such encouraging results, it is firstly thank to the concern of the Party Committee and the Board of Administrators of NUCE. Furthermore, all offices, faculties and departments have coordinated well to organize such activities. Finally, it is the enthusiasm of lecturers, their attempts to improve education and training quality, to discover excellent students; as well as the desire to study of students and their creativity.

VRejoiced at achievements that lecturers and students have obtained, Assoc. Prof. Pham Xuan Anh – Vice-Rector of NUCE Warmly praised and acknowledged their efforts, which have contributed to affirm the position and enhance the reputation of NUCE. Assoc. Prof. Pham Xuan Anh expressed his belief that the youth of NUCE would inherit from past generations and even go further, achieving more success in the future.
